Just back from a great trip to Nova Scotia wine country and the Halifax Buskers Festival. So we’ll put together that strange pairing. The Buskers Festival is one of 27 West Jet sponsor across Canada. Chefs, flame throwers, speed painters, winemakers, brew masters, bike high wire riders..etc.
But first The Wine Diva, Ruby Tuesday, Howling Bluff and Johnny Selbach and the Memphis Blues. Plus we’re giving away 3 West Jet tickets anywhere they fly.
THE SHOW
It’s a repeat of an interview I did at Everything Wine in North Vancouver. I was drawn by the Odd Couple effect of pairing Global winemaker Johannes Selbach from the Mosel and the bad boys of food and wine in Vancouver, George and Park from Memphis Blues BBQ House. www.memphisbluesbbq.com
Which is why we call this segment Johnny and the Memphis Blues.
Both Johannes and the boys were surprised to find out that Selbach Riesling and Memphis Blues pulled pork and ribs and smoked meats went extremely well together. A perfect fit..half a world apart.
I just think – you the audience would like this info and might act on it..it’s also funny as hell.
The Wine Diva, Daenna van Mulligen brings her diva moment to the show. This time she’s talking about the wines Will Flatt is showing around town.
They belong to Todd Ramsey’s company Marram of Calgary.
Daenna will review Tierra (Sonoma) Miner Family (Napa) and the truly fine Ehlers Estates (Napa) . Also, if time permits, some Argentine wines you should know about.
The newest, funkiest winery on the Naramata Bench, above Penticton is Ruby Tuesday. www.rubytuesdaywinery.com
Its right across the street from their former winery Red Rooster. www.redroosterwinery.com
We visit Prudence Ruby Mahrer..who along with her husband Beat run Ruby Tuesday. They’ve been on “the bench” for over 15 years now, so we talk about changes in and out of the wine business and what it’s like to start all over again.
A mix of old and new here. I interviewed one of my neighbours Luke Smith of Howling Bluff in early Spring. www.howlingbluff.ca
Since we ran that interview, he’s won several awards and was just handed a Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in BC Wines for his 2006 Pinot Noir. He tells the story of how he came to grow that wine..after many bottles of wine with friends, almost on a dare.
The last half of the interview was just done..so we can get an update on the award and when the newest wines are being released.
HOUR TWO
