We start with a two part visit to the cellars of Foxtrot a legendary Naramata Bench winery that to this day cannot be found without some real digging for info…which is EXACTLY what we do. If they truly make the best Pinot Noir in Canada, why can’t anyone find them or their wines? www.foxtrotwine.com
New World Wine, everyone seems to hwww.poplargrove.caave an opinion about them. TTR decided to go to two of the best talents in the new world, Stuart Bourne from Barossa and Mark de Vere from Mondavi in California. The Wine Diva looks back at 2009.
Hour Two kicks off with a lively discussion about 2009 in the Okanagan with Howard Soon, Sandra Oldfield and Ian Sutherland from Sandhill, TinHorn Creek and Poplar Grove respectively.
A return visit of Masa Shiroki, Master Sake Maker on Vancouver’s Granville Island. We visit Bruce Dean from Whistler Brewing. www.whistlerbeer.com
And we finish off with a visit to some of the wineries on Bottleneck Drive outside Summerland BC.
THE SHOW
HOUR ONE
Inside the cellars of Foxtrot Vineyards we find Torsten Allander and his son Gustav and his wife Nadine. It’s a great story of standards and stubbornness. Find out how they make not only one of the best Pinot Noirs in Canada but have a first time Chard that John Schreiner gave a unheard of 95 points. Find out why you can’t walk into just any store and find these wines, however the list of restaurants that serve Foxtrot continues to expand. Click on link to view list of restaurants serving Foxtrot click here..
Stuart Bourne, the winemaker who makes E&E Black Pepper Shiraz, and Mark de Vere, from Robert Mondavi’s legendary winery in Napa, stop working the cellars long enough to talk about the state of New World Wines. Who’s making what and who’s leading the charge? Also, Stuart addresses the TERM “New World Wines,” interesting, considering he’s working with 60-100 year old vines in the Barossa.
Daenna Van Mulligen, The Wine Diva, looks back on 2009 and gives us her thoughts.
HOUR TWO
Three of the Okanagan’s best winemakers get on the phone and talk about 2009 and what it brought, it was a wild weather ride.
Howard Soon in Kelowna, from Sandhill, the Canadian Winery of the Year, Sandy Oldfield from Oliver’s Tinhorn Creek and Ian Sutherland from Naramata’s Poplar Grove all have opinions on the year and what it brought, and so what it means the wines will be like. www.sandhillwines.ca www.tinhorn.com www.poplargrove.ca
Masa Shiroki is a charming rougue, he’s Canada’s only Master Sake Maker. His label Osake based on Granville Island in Vancouver. In his tasting room we talk about what IS Sake and what the future looks like for Sake in Canada. www.artisansakemaker.com
Yes, I’m a Sake Head.
Bruce Dean owns and operates Whistler Brewing Company.
Two things you should know. Its made in a brand new facility in Whistler, not Kamloops and the Whistler Olympic Village, filled with 1500 athletes, is within walking distance, you think he might have a GREAT 2010?
And once again we motor up Bottleneck Drive just outside Summerland BC, Trout Creek actually, where a gaggle of wineries are making a name for themselves.
We talk to:
Stephanie from 8th Generation www.8thgenerationvineyard.com
Jack Frazer from Thornhaven www.thornhaven.com
Judy Skinner from Dirty Laundry www.dirtylaundry.ca
John Gordon from Vinegar Works www.valentinefarm.com
