THE SHOW

HOUR ONE

Daenna Van Mulligen, our regular wine reviewer and host of websites www.winediva.ca and www.winescores.ca, takes on the task of reviewing the world class wines of The Long Shadow Project. www.longshadows.com
Washington wine authority Allen Shoup had one dream - to create world class wines that showcase the viticultural excellence of Washington State’s Columbia Valley. He called it Long Shadow. He invited a handful of the best winemakers in the world to choose a vineyard in Washington State and create their specialty. For our show, the winemaker joining Allen is John Duvall, maker of Penfold’s Grange Syrah.
There are only 3 Masters of Wine in Canada. We sit down in The Tasting Room and talk to 2 of them - Barbara Phillip and Igor Ryjenkov. They’re meeting in Vancouver to teach a Master of Wine Class Monday Sept 8th at the Art Institute of Vancouver. Learn about tasting, theory, hot wine topics and what it takes to become a Master. Of course, we’ll take time to talk food and wine.
David Giammarco is a pal. He’s an author, actor and journalist based in Toronto and spends most of his time wherever the sun is shining. He’s also a world authority on the James Bond film franchise. David is currently spending most of his waking hours on the set of the new James Bond film, Quantum of Solace, and wrote the cover story on Kevin Costner for the current Cigar Aficionado. He knows almost nothing about wine but is a foodie and spirits freak. Fun stuff here.

HOUR TWO
The Yankee Stadium of Food is The James Beard House in New York City. Only the best of the best are invited to cook there. 5 of the best chefs in Nova Scotia recently were invited to bring the best of Maritime food and wine to Beard House. We found them in the kitchen in mid-prep!!
Hijas Bonitas (ee-ah Bone-itas), a new winery opens this month in Summerland, BC, just above the waters of Okanagan Lake. It means “beautiful daughters.” Owner, builder and winemaker Lawrence Hopper, sits down with his beautiful daughters Chelsie and Teira and tells us the tale of how it all came to be. Very Mediterranean, very handsome family, wines and winery. www.hijas-bonitas.com Calling all foodies..here’s a family restaurant tale with a ton of laughs.
Howie Siegel has been running a great New York style restaurant in Victoria BC called Pagliacci’s. Through his father and Howie, Pags has served them all, Bob Dylan, Allen Ginsberg, Saul Bellow, Susan Sarandon and me (many times).
Its my kind of place and Howie is my kind of foodie. Now comes his son Solomon, who’s just opened Solomon’s a couple of blocks from Dad, and the son has gone “old school” with his bar, its a funny story, please check it out.

And finally, one of the most informed blogs about BC wines, Mike Klassen drops by the barn to talk about www.bcwinelover.com
